Brief

This garden was built for a young couple with a newborn child after they completed the extension on the back of their house. They wanted the garden to be modern, child friendly and also low maintenance. As the garden would be viewed at all times through the large kitchen windows and folding doors, it also needed to be sympathetic to the general feel of the new interior. The interior was fairly contemporary but softer in style with a rustic oak kitchen table, traditional farmhouse sink and natural limestone floor.

Solution

We continued the softer tone into the garden – using internal paint choices on the render and fencing, and choosing oak sleepers for steps (rounded edges for falling children) and external limestone. This garden featured a looser planting style using grasses, unclipped olive’s, standards and various herbaceous.

All helping to lead the eye to the main feature which was the  built-in seating and storage with bespoke cushions, covered by an oak pergola. In addition we installed irrigation, up-lighting in beds, down-lights on walls, and an oak sleeper path/mowing edge.

Outcome

A gentle but modern garden that required very little maintenance and allowed our clients the full benefits of outdoor living, safe in knowledge that the garden was child-friendly.
